This is the #35 ranked trail in the nation according to Trails.com and after reading about, it sounds like one that is not to be missed.
See the attached JPEG file for all of the details. The image is one from the trail head that was found on the internet.
We need at least 2 more hikers to make this a go!

Kevin, Bill S is in Colorado for the past week (+) and won't be off trail until Friday. He may not be able to responde to the site until this weekend.
Just want to make sure....I have not heard anything from Mike and Bill except for their "yes". Just want to make sure they are both still in.
Also, Ryan Bultemeyer, we still have room if you want to go.
The last I had checked this was closed. Did you lose a couple? Have you reopened this?

I'll post this on the calendar.
The 28th is good for me too. Great miami outfitters works for me as well.
August 28th is clear for me.
TJ Champs is just around the corner, sort of a sports bar kinda place with decent food. Also Bullwinkle's about a block north has great ribs and steaks... or if we're more sophisticated than that, there's a nice little wine bar right next door.
Aug. 28th works for me. I have a coupon I need to use there before Sept. 1st.
How about we meet August 28th. Someplace close to the Great Miami Outfitters in Miamisburg. I have been looking for a reason to go there. Does anyone know a good place that is in that area?
Thanks for the guide. The red roof inn sounds good to me. Maybe we can have a couple pre-trip planning sessions to get to know one another.
if anyone else wants the guide and isn't a paying trails.com member, you can grab it here: http://chadroyer.com/filechute/CDOvernightLoop.pdf
Nevermind... found the guide on trails.com
I am really excited about this trip because we are starting the AT on March 15th and we have never been to any part of it before. Red Roof sounds like a good deal to me. Are you going to have a planning meeting before the trip?
I'm curious... I've been trying to find this trail on google maps (which is always lame for finding trails anyway), and the only trail I can see going to clingmans dome is the one that starts at the end of Clingmans Dome Road, and that trail looks to be all of a half mile or so long, so it can't be the same one unless the hike includes the road... Just wanted to get a better picture of what the trail is like, and how much I'm going to need to whip myself into shape before time to go :)
I was not expecting this much interest! - This is fantasitic!!!
The group size is not supposed to exceed 8, but 9 is fine, I do not expect any problems. I have closed this trip off to any new people, so if you are having second thoughts, please let the group know ASAP!
Thanks!
Also, I was looking into hotel/motels. The Red Roof Inn, which is right in downtown Gatlinburg, is at $45/night.
Sorry I.m so late signing up, been in the Rockies for a couple of weeks. We're looking forward to it.
Sounds like a good trip to me. I love hiking in the smokies in the fall. Im in favor of the thursday night hotel stay as well.
I'd like to meet up with you guys but I have to work that Friday as far as I know right now. Since I live in Knoxville maybe I can catch you out on the trail or campsite depending how far you are going in on Friday. I'll keep an eye out for more definitive plans.
This sounds like a great trip to me. I'm in, pending final details. I agree with John, I think it would be better to go thurs. night and do the hotel, rather than jump right into hiking after a long drive. At this point I can be fairly flexible as well...
I will give this one some thought. It sounds like it will be up my alley. If I were going to go, I would prefer to go down Thursday and do the cheap motel thing and go fresh early in the morning on Friday. Not sure if I can go or not, but it sounds like a fantastic trip.
